The car brands Austin and Morris were independent, and successful, car manufacturers until their merger in 1952 to form the British Motor Corporation or BMC for short.

In the 1950’s, it was the largest British car manufacturing company with a number of highly recognisable car brands that were manufactured under the overarching company name of BMC. Perhaps most famous of all was the MG name, but Wolseley, Austin-Healey and Riley as well as the main Austin and Morris names, were all part of the stable of brands under the BMC name at the time. BMC also designed and manufactured tractors and commercial vehicles, as well as cars. In the 1950’s and 60’s BMC was proactive abroad too, with twenty-one manufacturing plants being set up in that time frame. Some were joint venture operations and others were subsidiaries.

The commercial vehicles manufactured by BMC were largely badged as Morris with some equivalents also badged as Austin. The larger commercial vehicles were branded as BMC.

The make Nuffield Universal was also under the BMC umbrella of brands, but it was not incorporated. Nuffield Universal manufactured marine engines and tractors.

There were a number of changes at BMC from mid – 1965. It purchased its primary steel supplier – called Pressed Steel - in September of that year, taking on a sizeable number of employees; in total there were around 27,000. A year later, the company announced a merger with Jaguar cars. A change of name occurred at the end of 1966 when shareholders voted to approve a change from BMC to British Motor Holdings (BMH).

Bryce is part of our vintage range of diesel fuel injection spare parts, and we have a comprehensive range of parts available.

Our wide range of stock items includes Pump Electrics, Injector Nozzles, Lift Pumps, Filters, Delivery Valves, Gasket Kits and Pump and Injector parts. Bryce established themselves as specialist manufacturers of diesel fuel injection parts in 1941.

The company Petters – who were manufacturers of petrol and diesel engines - made the Bryce Fuel Injection Systems for all of Brush's diesel engines. Brush is a manufacturer and maintainer of railway locomotives.  This started in 1950, at premises in Staines, Middlesex.

Bryce Fuel Injection Ltd and Berger Equipment Ltd merged and became the more recognisable brand name of Bryce Berger Ltd in 1952, still based in Staines.

There were two changes of ownership for Bryce Berger in tThe 1950’s. It was firstly bought out by Brush Electrical Engineering co in 1955 and at the same time became a subsidiary of that company. Then in 1958, Hawker Siddeley, the aircraft manufacturer purchased it for its expertise and knowledge of fuel injection systems. Hawker Siddeley moved the company to its Gloster Aircraft factory in Gloucester to allow room for expansion.

The company was then sold by Hawker Siddeley to CAV who were a subsidiary of Lucas at the time. The companies manufactured ranges of fuel injection pumps that were complementary.

Our stock of Bryce Berger diesel fuel injection spares is extensive. You can order them online, or you can call us on 01254 53545 or email using the contact form for more information. Stock parts can be despatched same day if we receive the order before 4pm.

We hold a comprehensive range of diesel fuel injection spare parts for CAV which form part of our Vintage range.

We also supply fuel pipes in straight lengths for our customers to bend to the required shape, or if you are able to provide us with a sample, we will bend and shape the new fuel pipe to the shape that is required.

The CAV name comes from Charles Anthony Vandervell (born in 1871), an inventor and industrialist who’s work focussed principally on the manufacture of diesel fuel injection equipment for diesel engine manufacturers worldwide. He also made electrical equipment for commercial and military vehicles.

A highly innovative company, based in Acton, London, it made the world’s first lighting system for use on a double decker bus. It also brought the dynamo-charged battery principle to the world.

CAV was bought by Lucas in 1926, and subsequently in 1931, CAV partnered with Robert Bosch Ltd., to make fuel injection pumps for the ever-expanding diesel industry. In 1937, Lucas bought out Bosch’s part of the business, and the company changed name to CAV Ltd in 1939. It changed name again in 1978, becoming Lucas CAV. The production of diesel fuel injection parts had been moved to more modern and larger factories in Suffolk, Kent and Gloucestershire, alongside overseas facilities.

A specialist diesel fuel injection division was created and became known globally as Lucas Diesel Systems Ltd. Since 2000 has been owned by the US corporate Delphi. The Lucas name has changed to Delphi and it has been a major element of the Delphi Powertrain Division for some time.

Our stock of CAV diesel fuel injection spares is extensive. You can order them online on this site or you can call us on 01254 53545 or email using the contact form for more information. Stock parts can be despatched same day if we receive the order before 4pm.

  • David Brown Diesel Fuel Injection Spare Parts

David Brown was a well-established manufacturer of tractors, and at Darwen Diesels, we still hold a very good stock of diesel fuel injection spare parts for their engines.

The first David Brown tractor was launched in 1936, but it was actually a joint venture between Harry Ferguson (later of Massey-Ferguson fame) and David Brown. The tractor was branded Ferguson-Brown.  Differences of opinion over tractor design details in the late 1930’s led to a split from Harry Ferguson and David Brown continued the manufacture of tractors under his own name. Harry Ferguson went on to develop tractors with Henry Ford in the US. David Brown became one of the biggest British tractor manufacturers in the period after the second World War. Sales were growing and the company flourished in the 1950’s and 60’s, with exports to over 100 counties in the world.

However, over time, the costs of developing new products along with new Health and Safety regulations that had to be adhered to, and increased competition from abroad meant that the company was sold to the J.I. Case tractor company in 1972 who were based in the us, but the David Brown branding was kept alive until the early 1980’s.

Our range of diesel fuel injection spare parts for David Brown tractors is comprehensive. It includes Lift Pumps, Nozzles, Nozzle Elements, Delivery Valves Filters and Gasket kits. We can make up filter and filter assemblies to your specific requirements too, if required. We also stock lengths of fuel pipe, which we can also bend to a required shape as long as we have a sample to work off.

We are happy to deal with your individual needs and specific requirements. We have well over 100 years of combined experience and product knowledge in our technical team, and we can advise and assist you as best we can. If we have the parts you require in stock and you contact us before 4pm, we will despatch them for next day delivery. Please call us on 01254 53545 or fill in our contact form.

  • Ford Diesel Fuel Injection Spare Parts

Ford used to make tractors in the mid to late 20th Century and we have a comprehensive range of diesel fuel injection spare parts for Ford tractors in stock at Darwen Diesels.

In the beginning, Ford tractors were branded Fordson, and they were the equivalent to the tractor market as the Model T was to the automobile market. They were a reliable design, very affordable and came with a wide dealer network. They started to replace the use of horses in agriculture.

Manufactured in Springwells, the home town of Henry Ford, they were initially made by the "Henry Ford and Son Company" from 1917 to 1920 and then the Ford Motor Company (both US and UK) from 1920 to 1928. From 1928 until 1939 there was an interruption in the production of tractors in the US, whereas production continued in the UK under the Fordson name until 1964. The Fordson name was ceased in the US in 1939 and Fordson became Ford tractors.

Ford came back into the tractor market with the N-series and the sales of the 8N model growing until it became the most popular tractor of all time in North America. The 8N was launched in 1947. In 1953, The Ford NAA replaced the production of the N line range of models in the US. UK production of Fordson tractors was based at Dagenham in Essex, running from 1933 -1964.

Over time Ford made a number of company acquisitions in the tractor market, and it grew. Eventually, Fiat bought Ford-New Holland (as Ford had become) in 1993 and the company and tractors name was changed to New Holland.

Nozzles, Nozzle Elements, Delivery Valves, Gasket kits, Lift Pumps, Injector Nozzles and Filters are all part of our extensive range of diesel fuel injection spare parts for Ford tractors. We also carry accessories such as copper seating washers in stock too. We can also make up filters and filter assemblies to your required specification too.

Please contact us for more information about our stock of Ford diesel fuel injection spare parts. Stock parts can be despatched same day if we receive the order before 4pm, so please call us on 01254 53545 or fill in our contact form.

  • Gardner Diesel Fuel Injection Spare Parts

Our extensive stock of Gardner diesel fuel injection spares is part of our range of vintage spare parts.

Our stock items include Injector Nozzles, Filters, Lift Pumps, Gasket Kits, Delivery Valves, and Pump and Injector parts. We also supply fuel pipes which we can bend to the right shape if we have a sample or template.

L Gardner and Sons Ltd was originally established as a sewing machine manufacturer in 1868 in Manchester. However, in the 1920’s it turned its attention to improving the design of diesel engines. And it did so with some success, as it developed the ‘LW’ series of engines during the 1920’s and 30’s which saw service in the luxury car makers of the day like Rolls-Royce and Lagonda’s.

Following the end of WWII the 'LW' series remained popular and was made in large numbers primarily for busses and commercial vehicles. The ‘LW’ range was joined by the more modern ‘LX’ range. In the mid 1960’s, the LW series of engines were modernised and updated so that they could develop 20 bhp per cylinder. It was consequently renamed the LW20. In 1967, the six-cylinder LX engine was redeveloped to produce 180 bhp from the previous 150 bhp and the eight cylinder LX was pronounced as the “smoothest running automotive diesel ever made”. Gardner also manufactured larger diesel engines for use on railway locomotives, and larger yachts.

In 1977 Gardner’s was bought by Hawker Siddeley, and it changed hands again in 1986 when it was purchased by Perkins Engines who had a range of lighter diesel engines complementing Gardner’s own. However, the new 1990’s emissions regulations spelt the end of production of Gardner engines when the last one’s rolled off the production line.

If you need diesel fuel injection spare parts for Gardner engines, we can help, as we have a comprehensive range in stock. Spares can be ordered on this website or you can call us on 01254 53545 or email using the contact form for more information. • Leyland Diesel Fuel Injection Spare Parts

Leyland diesel fuel injection spares are part of our extensive range of vintage spare parts for use in the engines of tractors, commercial vehicles, agricultural machinery, boats and cars.

Our stock items include Injector Nozzles, Filters, Lift Pumps, Gasket Kits, Fuel Pipe, Delivery Valves, and Pump and Injector parts to name but a few.

The origins of the brand name Leyland go way back to the Lancashire Steam Motor Company. This was established in 1896, but it changed its name to Leyland Motors after it acquired another local steam motor company in 1907. Before WWII Leyland made its mark in the industry by designing and manufacturing – between 1920 and 1923 - the Leyland Eight, a notable luxury grand tourer of its time.

After the second world war, Leyland Motors undertook several company acquisitions, thereby fuelling its growth. These purchases included Scammell who were a specialist and military lorry manufacturer, in 1955, Albion motors who were bought in 1951 and Standard – Triumph who manufactured vans, cars and agricultural machinery.

1962, under the guidance of Donald Stokes, who became Managing Director in 1962, Leyland Motors became a Holding Company which was called Leyland Motor Corporation. The company takeovers continued and in 1966 it acquired Rover Cars. With the purchase of Rover came Alvis Car and Engineering company. At the time they were a well -established aero-engine and armoured fighting vehicle manufacturer.

There was a merger in 1968 between Leyland Motors and British Motor Holdings, which gave birth to the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC). With British Motor Holdings came famous brands such as Jaguar, Daimler, Guy, BMC, Austin and Morris.

The management of a large organisation with so many individual brands, sometimes making similar products, was unworkable, and this factor along with many others, led to financial problems which meant that government financial support was requested, and given, in 1974.

Many diesel engine have been made by Leyland over time, especially in the commercial vehicle sector. At Darwen Diesels, we stock diesel fuel injection spare parts for Leyland engines. Spares can be ordered online from this shop or you can call us on 01254 53545 or email using the contact form for more information. The company changed name to Massey Ferguson in 1958. The brand Massey Ferguson is still current today, manufacturing agricultural equipment and tractors, but ownership is now under the large US agriculture machinery company AGCO.

The first Massey Ferguson branded tractor came off the production line in December 1957. It was the 35 model which was a great sales success in the important markets of the UK, US and Australia. The 135  model, which was a later addition to the range, was well-known for its reliability and power, and it too became hugely popular globally.
